Since Kyo still has possession of the basking spot therm., I went out yesterday to look at temp guns. The ones that I found locally started at $50, so I am going to order off the 'net. However, I did find a digital therm. with the outdoor sensor. Has anyone ever used one? She has the closet organizer shelves in her house, and I wired the sensor to the crossbars under her light. Ran the wire thru her screen (it's all secured, so no little toes are caught, nor can she play Tarzan ) and the monitor sits right on my desk. Right now it's 92.7 degrees. And no, I did not have the heart to take the old thermometer away...it's still her favorite thing to lay on! Cyndi

www.tempgun.comOrigianlly posted by Des I bought one. It's awesome and only $25 plus S&H. Only a few dollars more. As for the indoor/outdoor therm...it's all I use in my cages...with the exception that I also got the one with a hygrometer. I use one end in the cool area and the "probe" end in the basking spot. I do have a problem with it staying put though and once it's there it takes forever to reach the final reading. That's why I like the temp gun so much. It's giving me a reading immediately... ;D

I use 2 of the digitals with the remote probes. One probe goes in the basking spot and one goes down in the bottom of the cage.I realize I am wasting the functionality of the ability of the readout gauge to record a temp but I find it more conveinient to fasten the two gauges side by side on the outside of the cage for easier reading. One quick glance tells me upper and lower ranges in the cage.

I don't think it's a waste at all. Actually...I may adopt that idea, Merlin... ;D.

Merlin, it is nice to be able to check at a glance and adjust accordingly. The only thing is...its just like the remote for the tv, another excuse not to get up!
