Just hit lllreptile.com and saw that they have new ZooMed Reptisun out, compact florescent, pushing out 10%. Sits in a regular screw in base. Any one know anything about this?
Still thinking that I will go with the 65W Merc. Vapor lamp though.

I hadn't seen them yet either Mark. I'm hoping Dom will hit up the meter owners group to see if they have any info.

Since it is still basically a fancy flourescent I would imagine that it would be ok for smaller lizards, chameleons for example. For our big green guys I doubt it would cover enough area.

Funny you all should ask! ;D Posted at UV Meter Group: EXCERPT FROM LLLREPTILES NEWSLETTER: "But wait, there's more! Brand new from Zoo Med is a new compact Repti-Sun 10.0 UV bulb that produces plenty of UVB, no heat, yet has a standard screw base. This product will no doubt change how many animals with high UV requirements (i.e. basking species) will be maintained." Response from Bob Mac: Hello Sue, I have spoken to Tom at ZooMed several times about this lamp over the last 6 months. I have also mentioned it on the meters group several times. Tom is the first to admit that the % doesn't really mean any thing but all testing was taken at 12", which I admired. I haven't personally tested any but Tom assured me that they would 50+microwatts at start. We don't know the decay rate yet, but my feeling is that it will be a quality lamp as ZooMed has always accomplished in UVB lighting, with the exception of the 100wt Flood MV lamp that doesn't produce enough UVB after its initial decay. As usual, after12" these lamps will drop the UVB dramaticly. Best, Bob Mac MAR- The Merc Vapor is still the best way to go for good UVB output. You can order them through the site now. www.reptileuv.com

My MV just came in today. I opted for the flood since I don't have a distance of at least 3' from the basking area.
I will also wait to use it full-time when the sun isn't so handy...but of course, I will HAVE to test it very soon... ;D
