I just got my solarometer 6.2b in the mail today. The outside UVB seems normal at around 250, however my bulbs arn't normal. I put the window right up to the surface of three different UVB bulbs and each time I got a rating of about 150-300. When I'm six inches away the rating varies, but is usualy above 30. I was under the impression that most bulbs only emitted about 10-20?

Sounds normal to me shaun!
Actually I get in the upper 300's here in NJ in the summertime.
30 is a great reading at 6" if you are referring to each bulb and not all 3 combined.
Megaray will give you 260 reading at 12"! Now THAT'S UVB! LOL

Hi Shaun. I am measuring 3 tubes also, and those readings are consistent with mine.

Thank you Dominick ..its nice to be here. Sorry for the way I had to join though!! The "problem" is over...done, finished..etc. I will most likely order more meters if the interest is there..I can't not do it since its for all the wonderful reptiles out there. If the interest is there, the order will take longer than it has in the past. What I mean by that is the company is out of the parts for the 6.2 meters and since not alot of them are sold, they don't stock up on those parts, so the turn around time will be slower. Hey..x mas is coming and I am sure there are several reptiles that would love to have a nice new meter for their caring owners to test their lights! With the meters, anyone who has one has most likely paid for it already with monies saved on replacing tubes every 6 months..or have returned "bad" tubes and mercs, saving their reptiles from not having proper uvb. If anyone is up to some very very interesting reading about lights, uvb and meters, check out the meter group..I promise you will learn alot, after first becoming VERY confused!! Its great having a meter and belonging to many ig groups in that we can all share the good and the bad..and let others know what to watch out for and what we have all had good results with. Thanks again for the welcome and hope to hear alot of ppl sharing their uvb stories and questions.

Hi folks- I was out of town for 3 days and quite surprised on my return to find this thread way out of control. I see there was a problem that needed to be addressed, but Iguana-Zone is not the place for it.
I have removed several posts.
Just for clarification: I purchased my meter thru Diane and appreciate her efforts very much!
