I am thinking of buying the infrared heat thermometer "gun" from www.tempgun.com. Has anyone else used this? I am hoping to use it for quickly checking temperatures of Iggi, her basking spot, her bed, bath wather, ect. Will this work?

The one with the laser looks like a good choice, it should give you a more accurate reading of the exact spot you point it at. Just be careful not to point the laser near her eyes of course . Measuring the actual temp of your ig herself is an excellent idea, since, depending on the type of heat source you are using, her body temperature could easily be under or over the air temperature. From my recent experiences with taking Audrey to work with me and letting her get more real sunlight than she normally gets, it seems the parietal eye might have another function aside from sensing predators. I have found that when I take her out in the sun, she almost instantly darkens in color (probably to more-readily absorb infrared rays and heat her body) and her body gets very warm in only 20 minutes. With more time, she will actually become hotter than the air temperature. Then, when I bring her back indoors, her color quickly changes back to a bright green. I know that their core temperature, stress, and other factors control color changes, but it seems that the presence of sunlight does this as well. So, if you use a strong infrared heat source like I do, air temperature is only part of the equation. Oh, and just a correction to the definition of "Heliotherm" on the web page that describes igs as Heliotherms and that they get their heat from the air. Helios was the Greek sun god, not the air god, igs get their heat directly from sunlight. Think IR with your iggys, its definitely the best way to keep them nice and warm and to help them recover quickly (20-30 minutes with a strong IR source, instead of several hours in warm air) from being underheated. ;D

Thanks for the reply. Keeping a free roaming ig takes a lot of effort, and I hope this will end some guesswork. I think I will buy the product. Their customer service sent me the mailing address so I can pay by Money Order. $25 will be one of the cheapest things we have bought for Iggi. It will also let us know if Iggi is too hot outside. We don't like to wait until her head turns light colored, and she pants. She's already too hot by then.

Lamar~ This is the same gun I have. It's very compact and easy to use. I take it with me whenever I go on ig calls along with the UVB meter.
It's well worth the $25 + S/H.
