I finished moving into my apartment here at college and the cable modem arrived today! Orkos cage is setup in my room and there's one of those safety lights outside the window. With the shades down the room still gets about as much light as you would on a cloudless night with a bright full moon. Do they need it to be pitchblack to sleep properly?

No. Iggi sleeps with a night light on in her bedroom every night. She will sleep in mornings, until we turn on the overhead light, to wake her up and give her a bath.

That is plenty dark. Many people use tinted flood lamps as heat sources without too much detriment. I have been using a blue one for a year now but I have a MegaHeat on the way.
Where are you going? I head over to my apartment Saturday or Sunday but don't start classes until 2nd September.

Central Michigan University. I’m going there for the Information Technology degree. I might change it to computer science if I enjoy programming.

Watch your ig. After the couple of weeks it takes for your ig to get used to the changes and he still sleeps restlessly than I would try to find a way to make it a bit darker. This could be as easy as putting up some fake plants on the outside of the cage for it's own "bedroom" effect.
