Ok do iguanas have to be in the range of the light the whole time or just in the basking spot. I want to get the retpisun 5.0 48 inch the way i have my tank setup my iggy would be in the 8 to 10 inch range only in the basking spot and 2 other places would that be enough. Or does he need to be in range of uva/uvb the whole time with a spot to hide.

His basking spot should provide him with the means to get within that range. He doesn't need to be forced to be within that distance all the time...in fact, not allowing him to seek shelter when he wants it is not a good thing. A good thing to do is to put his heat lamps above the basking spot. That way, his natural behavior of thermoregulation will also control his UVB exposure. The goal is to attempt to simulate the effects of the sun.
