That Narcy is coming back to me and his evil twin is finally leaving after 5 1/2 months? last night and tonight he was scratching at the bottom of his new storm door so i opened it and let him walk out. On neither night did he charge at me, or hatchet walk around me, and tonight he actually came over towards me and did a kind of slow head bob, so i reached down to pet him because i think he actually wanted me to!! and when i stopped petting, he just walked on past me again. . .as opposed to leaping at me or charging me. I am sooooo hoping that he is becoming the sweet, lovable, and even cuddly guy he used to be before he discovered 'breeding season'! i don't want to get too excited in case the evil twin is just playing tricks and is waiting for me to let my guard down. It has been far too long since i have had my sweet iggie. . .i have missed him.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya Diane! I was just starting to get Thrasher tamed when she evidently hit breeding season. It seemed like one day she was climbing up onto my lap, and the next she was a maniac who acted l was trying to eat her every time I got near her cage. It hurt my feelings Thankfully the last couple of weeks she has done a complete turn around. I'm like you tho...don't want to say it too loud for fear of jinxing myself. ;D

When Rex went into his first heat he was a maniac. You couldn't walk by his cage without him charging at you. I'd be working at the kitchen counter (next to his cage) and he would fly onto the counter into whatever I was making, thus making a huge mess! Our oldest son had to run interference for anybody trying to walk by his cage. He was the only one Rex wouldn't try to attack.
Thank God it ended when it did.

alas! the evil twin has not left us yet. . .but his cage and environment are new to him so i'll give him some time before we consider 'iguana legs for supper'! i am hoping that the fact that he HAS had 'good days' means it is all coming to an end. i guess we will see!
and even if the evil twin stays, i would never truly consider the supper thing!

After reading many of the behaviour threads here, I think i may have a case of 'I've gotten away with the nasty temper during breeding season, so why not just keep it up' attitude! I know when his season first hit, he was really frightening since he is so large. i mean, i could hear him run across the cage towards me if i wasn't looking at him! But i am no longer frightened of him, albeit i still have a very healthy respect for him. But I am beginning to get him out every night just to assert myself as boss. I actually have to throw a towel over him to get him out of his cage. But if he thrashes while on my lap, i just hold him firmly down and next to me until he stops, and then he becomes quite submissive. I think it will take a bit, but I do think this will work. I've let him get away with far too much for far too long! He's a spoiled brat is all!

Hi Diane-
Your post made me think of another method to control them.
When you get him out of the cage, take him to a room he is unfamiliar with. Sometimes, being in unfamiliar surroundings throws them off just enough that you become the "safe-zone". This gives you some time to stroke him and remind him that you mean no harm.
I know in Rex's case, if my son brought the vicious beast into another room (out of site of his cage) he would calm down to the point where any of us could hold him. The closer we got to his cage, the nastier he became.
It's worth a try!

He he he, certainly seems like an evil twin doesnt it! Mine was a sweet ig one minute, likes to be stroked and get any attention, and the next he was lauching himself at my face biting and scratching without a single head bob for warning! Then it was all over and the nice guy returned after a short sulk. Glad to hear Narcys snapping out of it!
