Hi again, I was looking the forum about light & heating but I get some (maybe silly) questions... (I´ve already search! But you know, english sometimes is hard for me, so much technical words...) Alright, my setup is 1 x Florescent ReptiGlo 5.0 UVB, 1x Florescent ReptiGlo 2.0 UVB, and spot light 100W (with neodymiun) Exoterra with thermoregulator... You all know that those fluorescents have a short life of emiting UVB, I´ve read 6 months more o less... I´ve never have a problem with them, but I´ve read someting about some bulbs called Mega Rays (?¿). In hispanic forums there are no idea of that, in Germany for example they usually use Osram Ultra-Vitalux ( I put an interesting link if you want to read and lern a lil bit more www.uvguide.co.uk/zoolamps.htm ---> There is a test for Mega Rays lamp, Osram Ultra-vitalux, and another Lamp...) Well, the main questions is... Better a fluorescent? Better a Lamp? Wich one? Durability? Better UVB source? Oh my God... Wilson, you make me hace a headache... ;D

The mega ray,.. Hands down. Good for a year and produces much more UVB for greater distance than flourescents.

That's a very good site. We reference it quite a bit on various other forums, too...not just this one.
Many of us here use the Mega Rays. Some use the Mega Ray SB and some use the Mega Ray EB. They have proven to be the best UVB source you can possibly have for your ig. In a matter of just a couple of days many people notice an increase in their food intake and activity levels. Even the best tube on the market does not compare to the Mega Ray. If you're thinking of purchasing a new UVB source - I strongly recommend this one. You will not be disappointed.
These bulbs are pretty long-lasting if they're not in a location where there is a chance of getting knocked around. This can break the filament.
Some of us here also have the same meter used for testing these bulbs. The Solarmeter 6.2. I've been very pleased with the numbers I still get after well over a year of use and they have even lasted as much as 2 years. I've been using the Mega Ray since it first came out 5-6 yrs. ago.

I'm with the above commentary on the Mega-Ray. I've noticed a big difference when I've been without versus when I have one. Sancho (my ig) reacts different, the colours are more vivid and he eats voraciously! When he was without his light for a month he was kinda bored looking and really didn't care to bask and ate a heck of a lot less. If you want to invest money in something that will last and also cost less in the long run than the tubes each year, definitely go with a Mega-Ray.

12hrs on 12 hrs off usually. I like to mimic the sun as much as possible except when daylight savings ends, his light is normally on waaaayy to early for me at that point.

Same here CB. Way to early. I keep mine on a 12/12 schedule, too. Some go with 10/14 in the winter, 12/12 in the summer. I wouldn't go over 12/12. Igs need their sleep too...:-)

yeah I've got mine on 12/12 right now. Since I work nights and wont be home to turn off the light, I put the UVB/UVA and daylight on a timer that automatically turns the lights on and off everyday.
