I had a really hard time getting Narcy to stop bleeding when he tore his whole nail off not too long ago. We did the bandaid thing too, but what finally did the trick was the styptic powder i got from the pet shop. Narcy bled for about 24 hours before i got it to stop, was ready to take him to the emergency vet to cauterize but i got the powder and it worked. Might want to take a run to the pet store. Keep it clean too.

Z still has a bit of nail it loks like the end and bottom tore off ,the bandaid helped but it was still bleeding i tried elmers glue (it was sugested by a groomer when our dog got a nail cut to short if the quik-stop powder didnt stop it by the time we got home to put elmers glue on it) the first time i tried it he was bleeding to much and it broke through before the glue tried but it slowed down with the banaid on it so i was able to stop it this time with a touch of glue it worked perfectly on the dogs nail so i think it will be fine for him i can wash it off by soaking him in warm water tomorrow with out pulling any scabs off and starting the bleeding again, i am going to get some of that powder and some liquid bandaid when i can for any other injury my hearps might get but the glue seems ok for emergencys

Drako did the same thing last summer - never did figure out what he broke it on.
Another good thing to stop the bleeding is simple cornstarch. Use it just like the stypic powder, and it's non-toxic ;D. I keep a little container of it in Drako's first aid kit.
Hope this helps.
