This vet all but specializes in igs from what I can tell. While a zoo vet he was one of the guys to go to Jamaica to collect Jamaican Iguana eggs in efforts to save the species. Here's the kicker, the office is a ten minute WALK from my front door -- did not think that was possible here in outer yuppie-ville.
As far as we can tell he is in exhalent health and weighed in at 7.0 pounds. His toe nail stub is dry and clean no sign of gangrene or other nasties. I had a standard blood panel done (opposed to a comprehensive) and those results are due back Wednesday or Thursday.
While taking the blood sample a vet tech, they had to use three of them, almost caught the business end of an ig bite. Bob was understandably not happy and the tech stopped paying attention when he set his hand down on the counter.

Its good to see that you found a good vet for Bob. I'm glad to see that his toe seems to be ok. I was actually quite happy this morning when Audrey was able to scratch my neck with her left hand, she finally is getting all of her strength back in her left arm. The attack by Hercules about 6 weeks ago left her with substantial muscle damage in her left arm, so every little step in her recovery is cause for celebration. ;D My vet is good with igs, but his vet tech, who is a self-proclaimed "igspert", had no clue about how to properly handle an iguana. In my first experience with her, she wrapped her finger around the front of Hercules' mouth while weighing him. I had to explain to her that he could quite handily remove all of the flesh from the bones in her finger. The second time, she seized Audrey like a crocodile, simply because Audrey is the typical female ig and doesn't feel secure with being held. Audrey just gently reached out with her hands to get on the vet tech's shoulder, and the vet tech went ballistic and treated her like some malicious attacker. Like I said, my vet is very good with igs, but I won't be letting that tech near my kids again.

Good to hear that Bob has a clean bill of health! I can't imagine the bloodwork coming back negative.

I expect the blood work to show damage to the kidneys and liver, just to what extent is the question, harkens back to my ignorance and lack of good information early on.
Everyone there knew how to handle him very well. The guy who was almost bitten just stopped paying attention. No real problem or worries as it was 17:30 and he had worked a full day. We have all had lapses like that.
Just outside the exam-room was a large blue and gold macaw, I think at least but I know it was a cool looking large bird. I never knew that birds like that would head bob, he bobed at me at least three times. Very cool but I will stick to herps.

Bummer, the blood work still has not come into the vets office and I plan on going back to school over the weekend. I might have to make a weekend trip back (St Louis, MO) if it shows that Bob needs any help.

Depending on how long you have been giving Bob proper care, there is the hopeful chance that Bob's kidney damage can be repaired on it's own. I am SO keeping my fingers crossed for you. Glad you found a great vet! I am still looking and probably will never find one real good. The last one was good with diet, but wanted to see him greener... . Wanted me to add calcium to his diet and would not do a blood panel because it was a waste of time. Igs do not show calcium deficiencies until they are very sick. PFAW!!! I also wanted the panel done for the other readings. I'm fairly sure his calcium level is fine! But what about his BUN...this shows the kidney values. How are they? Ph? Really glad you found him Mark!

I am getting annoyed with my vet. The blood work has been in the office for almost a week now and I have been calling daily to speak with him about it but he is never there. The person on the other end of the line keeps telling me they will have him call "tomorrow"... So far tomorrow has been Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and today. I called each day to find that "he just left the office" then there was no answer when I called today after class (4:30 pm Monday) what happened to actually working on a Monday.
