Why thank you! ;D Its a floor television unit.. The old type ones.. My sister's friend took everything out of it, put a door on top, plexiglass on front, and a removeable back.. its pretty good except it stinks! -Melissa&Zeke-

I heard that if you put baking soda in a bandana (or something like it) and tie up the corners, to make a bag like thing, the baking soda will help with the bad smell. I have not tried it yet but I think it will work. (tie it up in a corner or something so the ig can't get to it though) Hope this will help with that smell

Well we already put baking soda in the cage.. underneath the newpaper(which is temporary until my sister gets me some proper bedding) and a tiny bit on top of the bark.. It doesn't really help a whole lot with the smell.. Whats this about the banana tho? Do you put it in a bag or something?

Well I heard that you would put the baking soda in the bandana and make the bandana into a bag. Or at least thats what I heard.

What kind of substrate is your sister going to get? The newspaper is truly the substrate of choice for many people...me included. Any kind of particulate like bark, shavings, gravel and such...can cause impaction and lead to a painful death. You've done to good with him now to have that happen! Stick to newspaper... . Zeke looks awesome. I have a snake in an old tv console, too.

How wonderful, Melissa! I was just thinking of Zeke today. He looks fine and you sure have decorated his home beautifully. What a great job you have done! Happy Holidays to all of you!

Well we had bark for him for the longest time.. Its perfect for him, the proper stuff at the Pet Store, and its not dangerous at all.. The newspaper doesn't soak up any of the smells so thats why I'd rather have the bark.. Merry Christmas to you all! And a Happy New Year! -Melissa&Zeke-

I'm sorry Melissa but you are mistaken. Just because the packaging says it's safe doesn't meant it is. There are a lot of products that are mislabeled, either intentionally or thru ignorance. It seems there is nobody overseeing them and requiring truth in labeling the way that there is for human products. There is NO particulate substrate for iguanas that is safe. Period. They tongue flick everything and can accidentally swallow it.

Merlin's right... if Zeke does swallow some of it, he'll be in for a world of hurt... it could be fatal. I'd go back to newspaper if I were you.

Let me tell you a story of a friend rehabber of mine...the same on who helped design the Mega-Rays...BobMac.
He had an iguana brought in...very sick, MBD, dehydration and impaction. The impaction was from bark specifically. It had impacted this iguana so badly that it took many days to finally get this iguana to poop at all. This was through many days of trying to flush his system with a gatorade dilute to also help with his dehydration and trying to force this stuff out. He nearly died mainly in part because he could no longer eat or defecate. It finally came out in a HUGE, painful wash of bark and he continued to defecate bark for a very long time. Prior to the flushing, the feces that was still in his intestines had nowhere to go but back up inside his belly. This causes toxic levels to build in the body as well.
This iguana died fairly recently while in Bob's home for about 2 years. His name was Emmet (?), I believe. He was a permanent resident. He died due to the lack of care he had recieved...and the bark was a part of that demise.

A very sad story, Prism. And we know Bob gave Emmett the best of care he could have received from anyone. I guess there is no coming back from major neglect and uninformed care, no matter how hard some try. Thanks for posting it.
