but the middle of those fingers are going to feel a little strange for him for probably the next 18 months. (Numbness/coldness that comes and goes for no apparent reason). The injury is healing quite well even though quite a lot of the skin on the ring finger has indeed died and sloughed off. Hubby said last night to 'tell that guy on your message board he was right. . .it does feel really weird'! His fingers are no longer splinted and he is down to a regular x-large bandaid now, two weeks after the incident.

Thanks for the update Diane. Has he been able to return to work? The flesh heals fairly quickly, but the nerves take a REALLY long time to repair themselves.

Wow just saw this. Eki has bit me twice now but that was when he was hungry and little and he had no teeth. But now I'm worried because he still tries to bite sometimes and he's growing. But thankfully I know the signs and watch him intensely.. so far the only injuries I've had are claw marks all over my left hand from him digging and crock rolling in my hand. That's about it for me so far.
good luck on the healing finger..

OMG! I am just now trying to "catch up" with posts (again!). How awful, Diane! But, like you said, if hubby won't listen, etc...
How is his hand now?

Hubby's hand is mostly healed, no more bandage, splints, etc. It will most definitely be a nasty scar, covering the entire front of his ring finger from one knuckle to the next. He actually decided to 'make friends' with Narcy yesterday. . . .guess what he did first? put his LEATHER GLOVES ON!!!!!! ;D

Me too. OK...I'll say it...I'm not sure the leather gloves are such a great idea. Sure they'll protect hubby, but they also present a threat to Narcy. Just tell hubby to watch out for his mouth when he's angry, I think the gloves will only further escalate a bad situation. Just my opinion though, igs often react badly to things we wouldn't necessarily think would frighten them.

There is some debate about whether or not to wear gloves. I think it's a matter of personal choice. If I'm not mistaken Diane has been using gloves for quite some time. I kinda think the animal can be conditioned to tolerate them.

Got it Tesa I think you're right that she has been using them for a while. I wish I could get Hercules over his fear of plastic bags, sometimes I forget that and walk into his cage with a bag of greens, he lets me know right away that he doesn't like the bag.

Yes, i have been using gloves for over a year now at least. If not, closer to two years. I think he is very used to the gloves, and the gloves that we do wear are of a softer leather and an almost skin tone color. There are times, like either getting him out of the tub, or more likely retrieving him from the floor to put him back into the tub he has so proudly climbed out of, that i do pet him with my bare hands. I think we both enjoy that very much, and i regret that i don't feel it's safe to handle him this way all the time. and even when he is being good. . .his claws hurt!!

Glad to hear that your hubbys doing fine, wow I thought Louie had a bad breeding season! Not listening to his wife that is so a guy thing LOL!
Claws ALWAYS hurt lol! I am trying to slowly get Louie used to being outside (as his other owners were too scared to do so) and he was doing marvolus until he started to run (he was on a leash) and then began a croc roll and I remember reading about getting on your knees and putting the iggy between your legs so I did that and decided it was time to go inside!

this is exactly what Narcy did a few weeks ago when it was unseasonably warm here (St. Louis area) and i took him out on his leash. He had been doing quite well with the leash in the house, but outside he wanted to run away. He croc rolled so badly that he got a couple of small wounds on his tail from the leash. i admit, i gave up and took him back inside. . .i hate to see him hurt himself like that.
