I would like to cover Kyo's basking shelf with something (right now they are the closet organizer shelves) to make it a little more comfortable for her.
Problem: she will not come down to use her potty, she bombs it from her basking shelf. I'm afraid that if I cover it with anything, it will just be a mess.
Any suggestions?

Yes...it probably will be a mess, but how about putting your sewing skills into something like chair pads you can tie on. A padded shelf pillow the length of the shelf with sturdy fasteners...even velcro could work here. Just fasten it right through the wire of the shelves.
The pads get dirty...replace with another while the first one is washing. Make a weeks worth and have an "ig bedding pail" for her soiled bedding so you don't have to do laundry for her soileds every day...just wash at the end of the week..

If you are up for the sewing and want to keep the wood here is what I would do:
*Find a heavy weight fabric that you like cut it and hem it so it is larger than the shelf by about 2 inches on all sides. *Place 1/4" grommets (2 sided ones, I just used them on my cage) just inside of the hem and evenly along the length. *These grommets then match tea cup hooks (or even screws with heads) underneath on 2 sides -- one end and one length -- and bungee across it to the matching grommet on the other side.
This becomes only a few hooks to remove but a tight cover and easy one ply to wash. You may want to use a fabric that you can wash with bleach.
----
The other option I see is white wire closet shelving. Poop through and just clean it with a stiff brush.
Hope you could follow my ideas Mark

You could cover the cushions with something water proof so you only have to wash the non water proof comfy outer cover? Depends how much work you can be bothered with! We had to make a new hammock for ours last night. We have a new snake and Dons a little jealous so he pooped on his favourtie place (hes never done his before in his life, always in his water). Had to take it down and make another one, it was really awkward to reach in with the screwdriver and fix Plus with the heat of the viv its hard work!! Im quite sure he knew this when he was doing it, and he also knew we wouldnt be so mean as to leave him without a hammock for the night!!
