I finally got the log i brought home at New Years into Narcy's cage. . .and i must say he is not taking to it as i thought he would. I have actually put him on it a couple of times, and this time he stayed put for a few minutes. Is it wrong for me to 'put' him on it? Will this cause him to be 'frightened' of getting on it himself? or, can you see anything wrong with the setup? is it too steep? maybe i'm just too anxious about it eh?

Yup, you're probably just being too anxious about it. Its new to him and probably smells a little funny because it wasn't in his territory before. Its probably best just to let him investigate it on his own. Male igs especially, seem to have something against doing anything unless THEY want to do it. Of course...female igs can be just as bad. ;D He should be fine with it once he has a chance to check it out. If you leave it at that angle, he'll still climb it to get to his desired shelf, but probably won't hang out on it for very long.

Thanks for the input. The main reason i put it in there was actually to make it easier for him to get to his shelves. we didn't situate his shelves very well, and i hate to admit he has a difficult time of going from one to the other. i figured he would love the log because it would be easier for him to 'get off' at whatever level he wanted without twisting and turning. . .and he probably will come to use it more than the shelves once he figures that out.

Iguanas are a lot like me...they don't like change! ;D. There is something new in the cage and he isn't sure what to think about it. At least he didn't freak out over it. We have tried to give Zok a pillow on her basking shelf and she won't have it. As soon as she sees it she goes totally ballistic. You'd have thought we locked her in with a jaguar. We ended up taking it back out in fear she would hurt herself.

Diane, aren't igs just SO unappreciative?? I completely understand! You are all excited to give him something new and then his reaction is more like a **humph** than a thankyou. ;D Merlin....lol @ jaguar! Herbie recently had an encounter with one of those also. It was disguised as a new blankie.

I must be lucky, Bob does not really care what gets changed in his cage. I can even move him a few hours away and put him in a different cage without much fuss.
Over the last few months he has taken to pillows. Last night he went to sleep with his head under a pillow, body perfectly under the MegaHeat HP, and legs back against his sides.
What type of tree trunk did you use up there?

Mark, you're constantly going between home and school, making new enclosures, etc... so Bob's used to change.
I'm trying to do the same with Gil because I think the more they're used to things changing, the less stressed they get, the better they adapt, and they're calmer igs.

Mark, i think it is a birch log but not sure. We got it from a friend's back yard by the creek running behind his house. He is having a major problem with beavers, and this is one of the smaller trees they have felled.
Tesa, you are so right! they are just ungrateful wretches sometimes! but then again, they never asked us to baby them did they?! ;D

LOL, Diane. I like your reply to Tesa. Also I want to respond to your recent picture of Narcy. He is gorgeous and looks like an ig that I would NOT like to tangle with. I hope one day you'll be able to find peace with him. BTW..what a good Ig Mommy you are. It looks as if you wound rope around his log so he could climb. I'm sure he will come to like it.

Yes, i did wrap it with rope because i realized the bark is a slick kind of bark and with the angle that the log is on i really don't think he could climb it without the rope.
Speaking of tangling with Narcy. . .you should have been here yesterday when i got angry with him for pooping on his shelf (he does this during his season - which i thought was ending) I picked him up and 'plopped' him on the bottom, and i'm sorry to say was speaking very angrily (and loudly) at him the whole time! He pretty much stayed where he was all puffed up and leaning sideways looking at me as if to say 'what are you yelling about lady!' He acted like he was going to come at me once and i was sooo angry with him that i just pointed my (gloved) finger at him and said 'don't you dare buster' and he just puffed up some more and leaned sideways but stayed where he was. I think Ig Mommy scared big bad Narcissus! I made up with him that evening though. . .as much as you can ever make up with my bad boy! A little off subject here, but thought you might find it amusing. ;D

Yeay!!! Narcy actually climbed up his log today for the first time of his own volition!!! many times when i have him out and am returning him to his abode, i put him on the log to climb up to his basking shelf. But today is the first time i have seen him choose the log over his shelves when going from the floor of his cage to the top shelf.

;D Cool! Sounds like he's finally accepted it as a permanent part of his enclosure.
