I have used the fake vines and leaves in Zok's cage for years. When first introduced she tongue flicked them a couple of times and decided they weren't very appetizing. Hasn't bothered them since.

Yup...mine never bothered with the silk leaves on the fake ficus trees I had in their juvenile habitat either.

I use the silk vines too - Drako gave them a couple of tongue flicks, and also decided they were not for eating. Just be sure that the ones you use don't have any wire in them. If a piece of wire were to stick out, it could cause an injury to Z.

Yup...silk plants pose an impaction risk. That is...IF the iguana was stupid enough to eat them. No iguana I have met yet has been that stupid. But...I couldn't even get mine to eat grapes or bananas...I guess they knew something I didn't when I was trying to feed them those things. Iguanas are very intelligent creatures...they often know more about what not to eat than us humans do. They generally won't eat things that can hurt them...its loose stuff that can accidentally get stuck to their sticky tongues that we have to worry about. Just keep up on the loose leaves that will inevitably come with silk plants...and your iggies will be fine. ;D

Actually...there was an ig whose person posted on the AIML with an ig that did just that...tried to eat a silk leaf: So it can happen...but this is such a rare thing...as are swallowing pennies, socks, rubber gloves, panties.. . I still have silk plants in my enclosure. He has flick-licked, but otherwise left them alone. Most igs will. Just watch him and the first time he explores it will let you know if he will or won't eat it.

i guess i'lll check out the fake plant section in the stores, i'll see if i can fine one that doesnt have the leave that just pop off so incase he does decide he wants to try to eat it he'll have to fight for it and i'll have enough time to get it away from him

I don't use plants, live or silk, in Bob's cage. Live are too much of a problem for obvious reasons and silk are a real problem to clean and pose the noted risk of impactation. With my plants only outside of the cage I have opted for a rather clean, somewhat, modern look to Bob's cage.
An option for you is a fabric background for the cage -- this will also help a little with the draft and heat loss in the mesh cage. Look around the local fabric stores for good looking cotton prints. Granted it will only be 2D but will break up the look of the pipes and cage. Also the fabric is easier to clean snalt off of than a wall. Sew on some ties to tie it around the top pipe and hang against the back wall.

Weird. Thanks for the information V, I guess there's always one or two that let their curiosity get the better of them. Did he say what color the leaf was? Maybe it was a color response thing. I haven't seen too many eat coins either, but I did see one on the TV program "Emergency Vets" that had eaten an entire coin collection. The vet at Alameda East was actually able to save her too. ;D I have been so impressed with what I have seen them do with igs there that I'll be making my next appointment for Audrey and Hercules with them.

That is...IF the iguana was stupid enough to eat them. No iguana I have met yet has been that stupid. ;D I keep telling Baby she is no dumb bunny but I guess I will have to give her the bad news that she is. LOL When I first got Baby over 9 years ago, I tried decorating the display case she was in with lots of fake plants and she kept eating them up. Luckily they all passed through with no problem. She even swallowed a screw once when I had her outside. It also passed through without problems. I guess she is just a very lucky bunny instead of a smart bunny. ;D Marie

IK...there was no mention of color, but I am going to go under the assumption that this plant has been in there for awile. It would be interesting to know for sure...but with work I have no time to ask. 6 days a week lately and some of them 12s don't leave time for much...
