With airport security what it is these days I doubt that they would alow you to take it in the passenger area of the plane and I definately would not want it put in cargo with the luggage. Your best bet is going to be leave the ig at home.

Some airlines do allow reptiles, but they need to be kept in the cargo hold which depending on the time of your flight could kill the ig. Some airlines are getting better about catering specifically to reptiles...and animals in general, but it is costly (sometimes up to and over $100 and specific caging requirements and health certificates) and you don't know who is handling your ig. Lots of people are frightened of reptiles and your ig could very well become abused from an uncaring attendant.
Very rarely are animals allowed in the cabins anymore unless it's a service animal.

I was speaking to an animal control officer in my town, and she said airlines allow pets with passengers, but ONLY dogs and cats. All others animals are considered LIVESTOCK, and must be carried in the cargo hold. Personally, I would drive, and take my ig. We have vacationed with Iggi to Daytona Beach, and Orlando, FL, and she was great each time. We use a 400Watt power converter to run a heating pad for her to stay warm.

Whatever you do, you DON'T want to take your iguana with you if you're travelling to another country. Russia, for example, has something like a 6- week (could be more, can't remember exactly)mandatory quarantine period for any exotic animal being brought into the country.

I'm very happy to read your post, Lamar. How long was your trip?

I'm very happy to read your post, Lamar. How long was your trip? Daytona Beach is about 2 hours away, and Orlando is about 3 hours away. This year, we are planning a 7 hour trip to Chattanooga, TN. We have found a pet friendly hotel there, with a suite. We stay in suites, so Iggi can sleep on the back of the couch. Here is a collage of the vaction pictures from last year. I will post this years vacation photos, too.

We went to Chattanooga the week after the 4th of July. Rock City is a must! That was the best part of the trip. I had thought about taking Zair with me several times on vacation. My little car would not allow for 2 kids and 2 adults with an ig. I need to get an SUV...station wagon...Hearse...

I have a new camera, with a 4 color CCD. It takes beautiful color photos (Sony F828). We are going on the 4 hour Fall foliage riverboat ride after we see Rock City. As for your car, I would advise renting a van/SW/SUV next time. We are planning to do this ourselves, this October.

Yes, your pics and advice are great. Our challenge is too far way to think about now, but in the next few years we'll be moving from San Antonio, Tx to South Florida. More than a 24 hour drive. My dh drives straight through. I don't have the faintest idea how we're going to do this, but a way will open up I'm sure. Maybe we'll have to stop over for a night like you did, Lamar

It will make the drive easier. You'll like South Florida, I think. I have read there are green igs living in the trees in Miami, and Spiny Tailed igs living around the Ft. Myers area. They are from igs that have been released, and can live through the S. Florida winter.
