This is my iguana, Sigmund Freud (formerly Marley.) We adopted her from my mother's boss (her 13 yr. old son wanted one for his birthday a few years ago & was a little petrified of her & didn't handle her very well.) My fiancee & I are trying to socialize her a little bit more, but she's still a grump. My heart's big enough for a grumpy iguana though; I adore her. Getting a bath tonight.

Where are her spikes!!!! She looks awful! Poor baby. She has the beginning looks of MBD to me...unless it's just the camera angle and her dewlap laying back strangely. Is her dewlap missing a good percentage of itself?? What did this kid do!? I hope that if it was abuse and the child became afraid it was because she started fighting back...:-(

I always wondered about the spikes myself, I have no idea how they went missing. There are a few on the head & back but they're scarce. The dewlap is all there, when I bug her with the camera she tenses & kind of pulls everything in, the angle didn't help any. As far as I know blatent abuse didn't occur, the kid was just very scared handling her & just let her sit around. You know how little kids can neglect & not realize it (bad excuse but I guess I understand.) We're in the process of moving so once we get all settled in she's getting a nice cage revamp, so that's always a plus!

It sounds like she's found a great home with you...:-) Thanks for taking her on.

Aww, I'm so glad she got out of there and in with you. She'll get so much more bright and healthy once things get settled. Once you've got a good source of UV, temps and diet it'll work wonders. Also, if the temps are nice outside taking her out into the direct sunlight is almost magical for previous neglect. You'll see...Take some pics over the next little while (trying not to stress her out in any way mind you) and watch the progression...Incredible how resilient these beasties are!
