I already introduced myself, but I was here so long ago and for so short a time I'm afraid some of you might have forgotten me. I registered right before I moved (back in August). I completely lost track of this board... it's kind of hard to find, and I forgot the URL. I apologize for that...
My name is Alika. I'm 22, female and married. I live with three birds (cocktiel, senegal parrot, blue fronted amazon) an iguana (Xander) and, of course, my husband
Xander is 2 years old. We've had him all his life, but his first year with us was rocky. He developed MBD from a diet of iguana pellets with occassional scrambled egg and iceburg lettuce and very little UVB exposure (no lamps, just when we took him outside). We did our research, but it turns out we looked in all the wrong places. After he broke his leg in June and was diagnosed with MBD, we started researching again. This time I found some online help and bought much better books.
In September, Xander went back to the vet for follow-up x-rays to make sure his new diet, new lights, and calcium supplements were working. They were He had regained at least 50% of his bone density from his June records. He's much greener and more active these days, too, and he's been growing faster.
He's small for his age; 8" SVL and 26" STL, but the vet says he's healthy as a horse!
I can't believe how involved I've gotten in his care. He was originally my husband's pet, but I've fallen in love with him and I'm now the person who feeds him, bathes him, and cleans his cage.
Glad to be back! Here's a picture of Xander, sitting on my arm, taken last month:
