For as long as I've been on this site I hear to use watered down betadine to treat injuries. My questions is, can you use watered down Iodine also? why or why not. Thanks!
p.s. the reason why i was asking is beacuse George rounded the corner too short last week and it busted his nose open. My mom only had Iodine around because of our horses and I didnt use it because I didnt know if it was bad for them.
Thanks, Jennifer

When Eki injured his nose we didn't medicate him but did clean it. Not sure though.. I probably did it wrong too. =/

Mommo jumped into the glass again last week after I cleaned it and busted her nose open too. I cleaned once with Betadine am putting Neosporin twice a day.I do have too clean off the old Neosporin first as she does not rub her nose on things. It is healing well even though she did it again on Thursday. Some will probably say this is wrong too but for this injury I feel comfortable with this. I in general I would only use Betadine not plain Iodine. Here is a link with a little info on the two. www.phlebotomypages.com/iodine.htm

Good link. I don't know why anyone would tell you you're doing anything wrong with the treatment of the nose that way. This is standard treatment for a lot of injuries. You just don't want to use the Betadine for more than the first initial three days is all. This will cause damage to the new tissue trying to regenerate. Iodine by itself is very strong. Although it won't hurt in a very diluted form, it could cause new tissue development damage even more so than Betadine. The Povidone-iodine is simply a better product as a topical antiseptic.
