Hey everyone....sorry I haven't been on lately, things have been so hectic around here. Anywho...so you wanna know about my small petting zoo heheheh....here goes,I will try to give a little info about each of my pets....
This is the newest addition to our family...just aquired Tuesday actually. She was abandoned at a local car dealership here is Ocala. She evidently belonged to someone that worked there and she was biting people so her owner decided it would be a good idea to just let her go in the wild. At least that is the story I got. Mind you I held her for a good 30 minutes until we got to the pet store and I got her a travel carrier and a cage and in all that time, she never bit me once, she didn't even nibble me...go fig. Well I couldn't just leave her there to die...so, I brought her home LOL.
Okay so all six of these guys I took in at the same time. Apparently an older woman had them in and adult mobile home park here in Florida that does not allow pets....well I guess she ticked off one of her neighbors and they turned her in for having pets (the penalty for which is eviction) Any who, there were actually 11 ferrets total rescued from her home by a local shelter....the 11 ferrets were split up into two business' (which is equivalent to a herd, for ferrets it's called a business LOL) Anyway, the six kids I took in were a bonded business which means they really should not be split up. Ferrets can go through terrible depression when separated from their bonded mates. Any who, two of these kids (Violet and Orchid) were adrenal and required immediate surgery...which they did receive thankfully. Anyway, that is how they came into our family.
This the little girl that started it all as far as the ferrets are concerned...She actually came with a cage mate as well. Her story is her and her cage mate belonged to a friend of my husband's daughter (4yrs old). Well they got their daughter a puppy for Christmas and the little girl no longer had any interest in her ferrets so the parents decided they should just get rid of them grrrrr. Well shortly after they came to live here Lily's cage mate died, we are not sure why, and I didn't know at the time anything about necropsy. Well, when Pookie (her cagemate) died, she fell into a bad depression, she wouldnt eat, she was dropping weight (and she is already tiny) etc. Well I figured I would get her a new play mate so explains my next furkid....
Her story is basically described above...she is the one I actually went shopping for to try and bring Lily out of her funk.
Petunia was a rehome from a girl who said that she was allergic to her and could no longer keep her because of this.
This is the start of all my animals. Shorty was rehomed to me because his previous owners said that "he barked too much and couldn't be house trained" Yeah whatever, I have had this guy for about 6 years, yes he does bark alot but he is successfully house trained LOL.
Holly we rescued from our local humane society...I guess you could say I went "shopping" for her too, but let me explain. Shorty is an old dog 13 to be exact...well he was 9 at the time we got Holly and he was really just old...he had no energy, he just sort of slept all the time and we really didn't think he was going to make it much longer...so again I figure well, lets get him a baby to play with and keep him company...sure enough, he came around and even today at 13 has more energy than a new puppy LOL.
I actually acquired Honey from a family member...my little cuz who was 9 at the time I took Honey was being forced by her dad (my uncle) to get rid of her and if she didn't he was going to take the cat out back and just break her neck....really what do you say to a little kid being faced with that? So that is how I got her.
Ella, sweet Ella, believe it or not, I got Ella from the same family member as I got Honey, Evidently my 19 yr old cuz got her at the local flea market...after about a month, she wasn't fun anymore. So they looked to me to take her....so sad too as they were housing her is a small dog kennel with only a heating pad for warmth and feeding her spinach grrr. So the sucker in me had to get her out of there you know....
Last but no least is my Bobo. Bobo is a rehome from a friend of a friend. She was keeping him in her apt while she was at college...she moved and as it goes, the dog could not go with her. He was actually only going to be here temporarily until his mom could find him a new home. Her aunt had been keeping him for her, but, he was not allowed in the house...at all. This was the summer where in in Fla, we had rotten storms all summer long...well her aunt was either keeping him outside in the storms or locking him in the garage, not even keeping the light on for him. So I told her he could stay here till she could find a new home for him. Well time went by and went by and I asked her if she found any place for him yet...she said no, but she was going to put an ad in the local online classified or on Myspace (Pitbull, free to good home) I think NOT. I know what your thinking...I though the same thing, the only people who will want him most likely will want him for a fighting dog...so I told her that she was NOT going to place that ad, not to worry, he can just stay here...if she had a problem with that...prove he was hers! And thats how we got Bobo.
So as you can see, I am definitely at my capacity for pets LOL....I wouldn't have even taken my new hammy had the circumstances been different, if she was being rehomed or something...but I couldn't leave her out there like that to fend for herself. Ahh well, what are you gonna do? Just roll with it hehehe. The way I got most of my pets is exactly the reason why I tend to favor my pets way more than people in general LOL.
