Well tweak has been looking fine, his lip looks better and he's was a lot more calm... Them my girlfrient picked him up (Tweak used to like her more than me) but today he freaked out and hurt his tail, it looks like he tried to break it off but only cracked the bottom off of his tail like a cut... Here we go again! ... come on... like what the hell... he was doing so good. whatever looks like vet time i guess... i wrapped it with neosporin till i go...

If it is a partial break, hopefully it will come off on its own, but if not then the vet will have to remove the broken part. Sorry to hear you are having such bad luck.

Im sad... Its not a very big break and he can still use all of his tail, i dont think its gunna come off... Theres no way the skin can heal over it again is there? I guess the vets gunna haved to chop it off... this sucks.

It may not be a break but only a flesh cut. A vet could tell you better that we can. If it is a break then the bone would be broken and the tail will need to come off. Whether or not it will heal depends on how extensive the injury is. If its not too bad it may go ahead and heal. Keep the enclosure super clean and put neosporin on the area. Watch for any darkening and shriveling of the area.

Did the injured section come off? Yes it is freaky I had it happen when we got our first Ig, her tail has since grown back.

it came off where it what injured, How long does it usually take to heal? Then how long does it take to grow back?

It depends on many factors, I really cant give an answer. Iggys tail grew back in about 6-8 months.

If it was laying on the floor wiggling all over I would think that was an intentional drop. My little one did that to mel about 2 months into me getting her and she was just a baby. Yep! scared the crap out of me too. But short of the coloration you can't even tell that she lost it. Becasue she was so little it all grew back. I think, that age of the Iguana has a lot to do with how much will grow back.. Need to keep your eye on it though to make sure it is healing good..

Depends how far up the break was and how old the ig. Younger igs regenerate the tail much better than an older ig. When it does begin to grow back it will have the look and feel of a warm, black eraser. Make sure the cage stays very clean - especially from poop, and clean it for three days with a diluted Beatadine (povidone iodine) solution applying neosporin once dried.
Keep your eyes on it for a dry, concaved look that turns a dead-looking brown. This could be the start of dry gangrene. It happens to many igs with injured tails, but the majority heal just fine. It's just something to watch for.
