Poor Tiamat had her tail amputated recently - we got a dog last month and Tiamat broke her tail twice slapping the cage so hard when the dog was in the room and it got infected so the vet had to take it off. My question is do tails regenerate when amputated close to the body? She's about 11" now snout to vent and her tail was taken off at about 6 inches in where it's still rather thick. She seems healthy now though if anything she's been eating more and has become a rather fat glutton which is a relief as she used to be a skinny little runt that had little interest in food. She used to be less than 1/3 Vendrall's size and now her body's only 2" shorter than his. Sorry for the ramble - do you think her tail's going to regenerate or be forever stumpy?

It may or may not regenerate, depending on how far back it was removed.Younger igs regenerate faster than older ones. The tail is a fat storage so when the tail came off she lost a lot of her fat reserves. This is probably why she is eating so much. And keep the dog out!

Most definitely!! I have 6 dogs in my house who know the hepr room is off limits. Zair is in the main room...but he is well adjusted. The point is...if you have a room dedicated to the ig...leave the dog out...

If her tail regenerates, it will probably only be an inch or two that grows back.
