Does the black lighten up at times? Sometimes Igs will turn dark if there are too cold, so they can absorb more sun or if they are stressed out. My Angus, only his head will get dark, however my Iggy Piggy will make her whole back and head turn black.

Do I detect squash stuck to the lips? Where's a napkin!? :-D
The picture is pretty blurry. I can't make out what you're trying to show. It does look a little like you could have some thermal burning going on if I just had to go by the black blur of the tuberculate scales (the rough scales on the neck). How far away is your is from the heat source?

8-9 inches away is just way too close. If you cant get the basking spot to the right temp at a further distance, you can get a higher wattage bulb.
