you should hold it every day, at least try for an hour, or more... unless its getting too stressful for the little guy. but if you HAVE to, get a small box or carrying cage while you change it to newspaper or fake grass or something.

Plain old sheets of black and white newspaper will work just fine. Not exactly attractive but safe, functional and cheap. And based on the quality of what is contained in most newspapers, catching poop is a fitting use for it!

Linoleum tiles, slate, etc are what I use. They don't need to be changed, look nice, and simply wipe off easily for cleaning.

I actually just went through the whole no handling thing. I work a 4-1 pm shift so when i get home every night i pull her out and play with iggabella. the way i do it is i got a work glove and put it over my hand. so if she bites it dosent penetrate the glove and it dosent hurt. more surprising actually because ur expecting to hurt. whatever you do move very slowly. u move fast and she freaks out. always drop hand to the bottom of the cage (if an aquarium) and mov e slowly in from the side. once ur hand touches her stop and let it sit there as u slowly move up and down the body slowly no more than half an inch. she will push her body against ur hand to show u submissiuon. at this point slowly work ur hand under her while talking softly to her assuring her everything is alright. if u cannot catch her (after cleaning cage) put gloves back on, grab a pillow case and wait til she stops running and toss pillow case on top of her. be quick and grab her and wrap her and hold her close to ur body and softly talk to her to calm her as u rub her through the pillow case. do this daily and u will start to learn ur iggys movements and know when to talk to her and how to reach for her. as for the tail i dont worry bout it cuz i dont think it hurts but some say its worse then the bite so i guess its up[ to you. hope this helps

Hey, derrillbaird, that's a good description of how to calmly pick up an iguana. I use the same slow motions and come in from the side, my Gwendolyn is much more comfortable with it that way. This is an old thread but I appreciate your helpful input I've never had to catch my iguana but if someday I do have to I'll keep that pillow case trick in mind.
