quick question. my baby iguana will not touch his foot bowl unless i sprinkle a little bit of reptocal on top.... then he goes right over and eats it all. is it ok to give him it everyday... and is it wierd he won't eat anything out of his dish unless there is a little sprinkled on top??

Usually its the other way around. Very strange. How much are you sprinkling on? Can you see the powder? If so you need to use less. Too much can be toxic. No its not good to use everyday.

he also won't eat his collard greens and stuff. he only eats the romain lettuce and the few carrots. although i did get him to eat some butternut squash. i've been putting just a few peices of lettuce in there with his greens. maybe it'll just take some time to get used to his new.... correct diet

Yes he will eat once he gets hungry enough, carrots should be fed very rarely if never, they are high in oxolates which bind calcium making it useless because the body cant absorb it. An excellent alterative is parsnips, they look and smell like carrots but are white. You can try sqeezing sweet smelling fruits over his food, or add some red or yellow bell peppers. But dont let him train you! Have you posted any pics yet?

if you click on the pic its bigger. this was the second day i had him and two days before i treated him for mites. its been two days now and i haven't seen any on him or showing up on the paper towels in his tank... although i keep a watchful eye. i feel like he looks much greener now. he sees the vet for first time on tuesday... we'll see what he says... but thats my Ringo

Good he needs to see the vet, he is very skinny so maybe he has internal parasites.

he is a bit fuller now that he has been with me a week. his poop has also gone from white liquid to now a good solid turd. but he will absolutely see the vet so i can be certain he will be healthy.

OK...time to wean him off the bad foods. It's not especially hard and can take a couple of weeks or longer. www.iguanaden.org/diet/lettuce101.htmRingo is very thin. A good diet and lots of internal hydration will help. I would also suggest a boost in microflora - especially if the vet treats him for internal parasites. The gut flora needs to be replaced every now and again anyway. Igs are not hatched with this. They eat healthy adult iguana poop to add this to their own system. It can be purchased in several places: 1. Nutribac - specifically for herps (many pet stores, online) 2. Benebac - Made for birds - approved for reptiles (pet stores, online) 3. Nature Zone Essential Probiotics - specifically for reptiles (online - www.bigappleherp.com ) 4. Acidophilus Tablets - Human health food store

And just so you know. The white stuff isn't "poop. Its called urates and is the equivalent of urine. It isn't the result of solid food being digested.

Having only urates suggests that he wasn't eating anything, or at least not passing anything! Having a brown poop is a good thing.

ok thanks. its good to know he is doing better than. i am also happy to say that today he ate almost all of the collard greens i gave him. all his mustard greens, all his butternut squash, all his bell pepper and all the cut up piece of strawberry i gave him this morning. no reptocal. its the first time he has eaten all that stuff with no reptocal and no romaine lettuce. yay Ringo
