does anyone know why my iguana is always closing his eyes? When I take him out he shuts his eyes. When hes in his tank he has his eyes closed from time to time. Like hes sleepy or something.
He has a regular housebulb for heat and a rpetisun 10.0 bulb for uv.

how long have you had your Iggie? how big is he send a pic of what he looks like. but if it is new to you and the house hold. he might be scared to death. if that is the case, just give it time to adjust to you and the new environment and he will warm up to you and keep his eyes open all the time.

He is still quite young!! They have a habit of closing their eyes [or at least the one that is seeing you as they can not look straight on at anything] to make you dissappear. Most of the time it is just the eye that you can see. ;D Was he allowed a settle in time where you had no contact with him unless it was to clean the cage or to feed for that 2 weeks?? Anyway that behaviour is normal untill they get used to you and know you aren't going to eat them.. Just be patient with him and he will come around .. Hopefuly!! Now as for him closing them in the cage it could be the same reason or it could be that something is not right in the cage.. Which if that is the case could be a bad thing. Can you explain to us what that cage is.. How big.. What lights.. etc.. Please!! The more we know the more we can speculate and try to help out!!

I know this an old post but for his warming light you prob should not use a household light. He's probably closing his eyes all the time because it's so bright in there

ha, that could be but then again it is a common iguana tendency to close their eyes (or just the eye looking at you) if they don't want to see you for any various reason they have. Sometimes what I just stop to look at Gwen she closes the eye looking at me. She often keeps her other eye open until she sees that I can see her other eye then she closes that eye too. I don't mean to sound like I'm scaring my iguana, it isn't like that, they are just funny creatures ;D
