This is just to let anyone out there that is in search of all the info that they can get on your guy's.. Reptileforums.COM is NOT a good one.. they have one moderator that pretty much maintains this site at this time. She is self proclaimed experienced of 35 years [so everything she say's is gospel].. You disagree, she will come back at you. If you have good enough facts to back her down.. She will delete your post and then post the final post that makes you look like the jerk.. Bashing whoever!! Her forum name would be Callalily..
Watch out guy's !! She is knowledgeable and will kick some butt when it comes to CORRECT INFO!!
We are posting this everywhere we can!!
Her last statement that was upsetting and caused the husband to yell back.. And he was not bashing her in anyway, was this. [now remember.. she has 35 years of experience in animal rescue--whatever.. research..oh no!! that would be from her scientist people Now that comes from Scientific information [won't give specifics], talking to people[??] and her own experience..??
What started the argument per say was that he had given a person the Beautifuldragons.com site for varity in food offering, per their request.
Her answer:
That info is really not appropriate for green iguanas. It is awesome and then some for beardeds though.
His answer:
And I think that there would be people out there that would disagree that they are not herbivores. Per Melissa Kaplan "Iguanas for dummies" book, page 10 States: [excellent author/researcher] anapsid.org
THEY ARE HERBIVORES
Iguanas ar herbivores, animals who eat only PLANT matter- the vegans of the animal world. There aren't many herbivorous lizards in the world but they all share acouple of traits: They all need lots of heat and they all get big. Herbivorous reptiles also require good nutritious plant matter, not just a head of lettuce now and then. In fact most conscientious iguana owners come to realize that their iguanans eat better than their human family members.
Putting together nutritious plant based diet can be quite complicated, especialy if you can't find a steady, year round source of all the leafty greens and VEGTABLES that your iguana needs.
If you go to her site, she also give links to other sources as she does not expect you to just take her word for it..
She came back with this: [this is what was upsetting to my husband ]
Answer:
Melissa Kaplan does not do any research of her own. She does not do any writing of her own...everything on her site is plagarized from someone else. She does not know good care from bad care. Don't believe me? Take a good long look at her caresheets. Many of them are not only out of date but flat out wrong.
His answer:
I have asked you before to give me your resources beings mine just don't have it as you think. You come back at me and say "I shouldn't have to do your research for you!
No!! You shouldn't and I don't want you too.. But does that mean that your Scientist's, or other resourses are the only ones that are right??
When I do come out and say where mine comes from "I, at that time am telling you where my truth lies". So you said I could say!! That is what I have found from my research, that is what I have been using for 4 years and has worked well for the Iguanas.
I started with Melissa's formula's.. Housing, lights, temps, diet. I have since upgraded to bigger housing, better lights than were recommended [ MegaRays weren't on the market at that time], the diet has changed, upgraded as I see it. Process of adding humidity. Yes her site is outdated,, doesn't mean to me that it is wrong!! The point is that she gave me the basics and I went from there and did on going research as most reptile keepers should do..
Just know that one got deleted too!! Now how was that post bashing in anyway!!
Spread the word guy's.. Not a good forum!!
