hello everyone I have a 6 month old green Iguana named Floko and have been trying to potty train him for the past month and a half I feed him the same time every day and his restroom times are 8-9 am and 2-3 pm. The problem im having is every once in awhile i miss a time and he will just go anywhere he pleases. There is no pattern to where he goes, he just does his business where ever. I am wondering if hes still to young to potty train or is he just being a stuborn baby iguana. Every morning i get up and fill a lasagna pan full of warm water and soke him in it for a minute before he defecates. I do this at 2-3pm as well and he does it again. As soon as he is about to do his business i let him go and let him crawl out of the lasagna pan. The times i miss though he doesnt know where to go and either poops next to it or where his warming spot light is.
he has a 6 foot by 6 foot by 4 foot cage and yes hes only 6 months old. he knows where his food is and water but just cant get his restroom ideals down.
Any help would be much appretiated ???

you should start whenever possible.my iguanas are pooty trained an d they are 4 months old.theyve been potty trained for about 3 months.after you feed it hold it for ten min then put him in his cage.dont pick him up until you see poop or pee.it will go where it likes best.do this for about two weeks and then he will prolly be potty trained.if your holding him and he goes poop and pee(this happens to me a lot cuz i hold him SO much)dont get mad because he cant hold it anyymore.humans do that if they cant hold it

That is a method I have never heard of before. Iguanas are naturally inclined to poop in water; whether that be in their water dish or in a bathtub - it makes no difference to them. I have had two iguanas before and my first one was this way and my second one also does this. I have a tub of water in my iguana's enclosure and whenever she has to go - she goes in her tub of water. I've known many people who use this method and it works for most but not 100% of the time. Its great to hear how much you hold your iguanas! I would recommend trying out the water method and perhaps they wouldn't poop on you anymore Good Luck! -Jenna

LOl my iguanas poop in their water bowls to but the reason iguanas do this is because they dont think their water is clean enough.but they used to poop in one spot when we payed a lot more attention to them so we could clean their water more.
