Just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself in case I hadn't already. I currently own 3 iguanas and 3 leopard geckos, along with a real zoo of other animals. My 3 iguanas are all rescues of one type or another.
My first is Chubby and he is 5.4 pounds and almost 5 feet long. He was malnourished and his color was awful when I got him. He was about 1 1/2 or 2 pounds underweight when I received him. In a little over 6 months he has gained approx. 2 pounds. His color has greatly improved because of greatly improved diet. He is a big baby. I can do just about anything to this iguana.
The second iguana is Duke. For a long time we didn't know if he was a boy or girl. We finally found out that he is a he. When I got Duke I simply added him to the enclosure and the 2 fought. So I removed him and made him his own cage. The first time I got bit, Chubby was sitting on top of Duke's cage and I was trying to pet Duke. I got distracted and Chubby moved, Duke moved and he bit me. No stitches that time. Then I had them in a basking pen (15 foot round pen on the ground) I thought they were mating (still thought Duke was a girl at the time). After they separated I removed Chubby and checked him for injuries, none. I reached in to check Duke and he had some blood and bent spikes. So I tipped the spikes up and wiped off the blood with my hand, as I was drawing my hand back, he leaped up and grabbed my hand. He caught my ring finger on my right hand. It ripped open my finger from the first joint to the tip and cracked the fingernail and ripped down the back of my finger as well. 4 stitches and a splint. 2 weeks for the stitches to heal then come out. He is very aggressive. His nose and chin are rubbed and bruised from running into the cage walls. His 2 front feet are missing toes and the bottom of them have sore spots. So I am trying to keep them clean and he keeps trying to bite me.
The third iguana is Sidney. She is supposed to be DNA tested a female. And from everything we've seen I'm pretty sure she is. LOL She was kept in a galvanized metal cage that was way too small for her. If she is 12 years old then she should have been in at least an 8x8x8 cage. She is only about 4 1/2 feet long but weighs 5.8 pounds. Big girl. All of her spikes are rubbed off from her small confinement. The vet said her growth was stunted. Hopefully she'll calm down. She hisses a lot and tries to bite me. She's managed to grab my shirt a few times. Her skin is a mess. She has lesions where she has rubbed so many times and made knots, just build up of scar tissue. In some places there isn't any real skin/scales left, just scar tissue.
Well that about does it. We are in the Atlanta area of Georgia. Love the site.
