Hello, I'm new to this both the site and Iguanas. My son wanted to trade his ball python for an Iguana so here I am lol. I am very much a pet person and although I personally am very knowledged in German Shepherds and fish the Iguana is the first for me. So I'm here to learn so I can teach my son the right things to do and the things to avoid. I'll tell you my story. I recently got an Iguana from a friend ( about a month ago) She said it was 8 months old. Male or female no idea but it's name is Godzilla. She didn't handle it much so right now is a taming experience for me. It whips, runs, tries to bite you name it it does it. I give it a bath quite regularly for I find it calms it down and I can actually pet it, I trimmed it's nails a bit so it would be less scratches for me. Currently I have it in a 50 gallon fishtank. My husband is in the process of building an enclosure for it that it can grow and live full size in. (I am aware of how big they get) But I have a bit of a concern in relocating it into the new pen when built just because I know they are territorial I have this hunch it just may be harder to tame it. So everyday I picked it up, pet it, get whipped, it runs away and I catch it and do it all over again. Getting it out of the cage is a challenge all of it's own, it runs and jumps and whips, it takes a bit. So I thank you for this Forum so I can learn and hopefully make this Iguana nice and keep it healthy and happy for many years to come.

Update::: So I guess it's been a bit over a month since my last post and I thought I would update you on Godzillas progress. We will go with he because I still have no idea what it is. I take him out regularly, he has stopped whipping me, he's has grown a bit since we got him. He's still unsure at first when you open the lid on the cage but instead of running frantically, he just sit on his stand and watches everything. I don't just go in his cage and grab him out, sometimes I'll actually sit there for 45 min just petting him until he allows me to take him out. I had him on my chest the other day petting him as he snuggled up under my chin for hours happy as could be which pretty much brought me to tears to see that he has come so far in trusting me in such little time. My son has kinda lost interesting in him as I knew he would but thats okay, I have no problems at all calling him mine. I took him outside today (I held him of course) to pick some dandelions and flowers for him to eat. He was pretty observent of his surroundings and everything that was going on (you can never fool him) until he heard a bird and freaked right out lol, I knew it was time for him to come in. His tank is beside my 120 gallon fishtank with my oscars so I see him watching them regularly, I guess he finds them interesting. all in all he is making amazing progress and I definetly enjoy having him around. he still isn't to keen on my husband though and that's okay seeing how I do everything so he is now in the process of making his bigger and final enclosure for me now that his behaviour has changed. I tried to upload pics of him but I guess my pics where to big so hopefully I can figure it out so everyone can see him.
