Hello everyone, I just got a baby iguana today and had a quick question about his behavior. I had him in his new home for 4 or 5 hours and decided to take him out to give him a little handling time. After a few minutes he climbed onto my shirt and fell asleep while clinging to it (he's still sleeping here right now). I'm just a bit worried because i know Iguana's have a very set sleeping schedule and are normally awake all day long (that's what i've read at least). Should i be worried that he's sleeping?
Thanks, Req

Hey Req Welcome to Iguana Zone. Iguanas do usually have a preferred time of thier choosing every day to go to sleep but they don't always stick to it. Usually my Gwendolyn will be up in her corner sleeping around 8 whether I have turned her light off or not. Other nights when I forget to turn her light off around 9, I walk in and she is still awake basking under her lamps (even at 10:30 at night). Another thing about iguanas is that they become less active, and might take a nap, when they haven't been under their lamp for awhile and start cooling off. If he doesn't feel quite warm that might be why he is taking a mid-day nap. My Gwendolyn takes mid-day naps sometimes when she roams around the room and decides to stay on a dresser for a few hours. I wouldn't be worried about it but if you want him to wake up then just put him back under his basking light and be sure not to have him away from his lights for more than a few hours. Thanks for asking, Req -Jenna
