Hello!
I need some advice/opinions to help one of my iguanas
I wasn't quite sure if i should put this under behavior or illness but i hope you guys can help me out. I have an iguana, her name is Scrios, and she is about 3 years old. Lately she just hasnt been acting like her normal self... she's been acting, nicer? I mean im thankful for the lack of aggression and everything that iguanas have been known for, but its not like her to be this sweet.
She just has a general lack of energy it seems like. For the past week she's been out of her cage more than she has been in it but unlike any other time i let her roam, she isnt moving around and exploring? She just seems really tired all the time...Usually she'll climb everything in sight the moment i put her down but now she'll just sit in my lap or on my stomach and just lay there. I don't necessarily think im doing anything wrong as far as care is concerned... but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if their iguana turned out alright?
Because i know i'll probably be ask the basic questions, i'll just list off the basic care she receives.
Lighting/Heating- Because its summer time here in Colorado, and our summers are really hot, i generally turn of her heating lamps. My vet suggested using a light called "Power Son" o i really dont think her lighting is the problem... plus as i mentioned before she is outside her cage a lot this time of year.
Diet- This ones a little tricky because i like to change it up so they don't get bored. What she has been eating lately has been collard greens, mustard greens, broccoli, carrots (not many, they just love the color orange and think of it as a treat), grapes (again not many). I also gave them both a little bit of kale and strawberries as a treat. On that note i have noticed a huge decrease in appetite with her. While my other iguana seems to be constantly eating she'll have a few bites and then leave it alone. Usually she eats the hole bowl and still wants more!
Water- Its summer time so i boosted the water amount they have access to. Both igs have two waterbowls in their tank now because they love to make them dirty all the time -_-
Humidity- This one is tricky.... I live in Colorado. This is the driest place I have ever lived! I have a humidifier next to the cages and spray them every chance i get. But when they aren't in their cages i usually give them a bath every other day and if its really hot i'll spray them with cool water for kicks. They seem to enjoy it.
Sunlight- Lately i have been sitting outside with the iguanas on my deck. I figured natural sunlight is way better for them than the fake lights i buy. They both like to be outside and because they are on the deck with me i dont have to worry about insect bites or stray cats chasing after them. I will note though that when i take Scrios out she wont stay in the sun very long. She prefers the shade. Whereas the other iguana will bask until she cooks and i have to make sure she stays hydrated.
Hmmm i think this is all the information i can think of that most people ask about... The other iguana is doing fine. Still active and climbing everything. Scrios is just sleepy...and has no energy
It doesnt seem like a huge threat to her health right now, but if it gets worse im going to take her in to the vet.
Oh! And i'll just rule out right now that she is not gravid. in fact she looks a little smaller than usual.
Let me know what you guys think! Or if you have any suggestions to boost her energy!
