Hello there fellow herpers. I'm thinking on adding a new member to the family, and since there are many experienced herp keepers here, I would appreciate any advice. Does anyone here keep or know anyone who keeps Green Tree Pythons? They are one of the most beautiful snakes in the world and I would love to add one to my family. I've tried some of the chondro sites and haven't received any info yet. (Either they don't have a clue or don't like strangers .) I've also tried finding info on-line, and there is little to no literature on these fascinating creatures. So, hopefully someone here can steer me in the right direction. Thanks. Joe

Hi Joseph, I too am enamored by GTP's. They are some awesome looking snakes. You should know that they are quite nippy and don't tolerate handling well at all. But they are beautiful snakes. Here's a site I'd like you to visit and ask the question there: www.reptileforums.comThere are quite a few GTP owners there. They would be able to speak to you from experience.

I can't add anything concerning snakes. We got around Christmas time and it died within a few weeks. Folks told me the snake had to be ill before I got it, cause we had it's habitat set up properly but I'm not confident enough to try another one. I'm sticking to lizards! (along with Thrasher we have a Mali Uromastyx and a dwarf club tailed iguana.)

Thanks everyone. I'm finding a lot of conflicting information about GTPs on most forums. There really isn't a whole bunch of readily available info on chondros, but I'm 99.9% certain that I'm going to take the leap. Comparitively speaking, our iguanas are much more difficult to care for than most exotic reptiles and mammals, so I'm sure I can meet and exceed a GTP's needs. If you guys or gals have any more info or suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Joe
