Hey guys! Im new, still tryin to figure this thing out, ive never joined one of these before. Um I have 4 green iguanas of my own (Zilla, Reptar, magellan, Grotto) and one foster (Hercules). I also have 2 baby desert iguanas (Jack and Zini) and 5 snakes, 3 of which were rescues (a ball- Monty) and (2 corns Casper and Roxi) and 1 young redtail boa (Corona) that we bought and we just got another baby corn (Donte) and we also have a crocodile gecko (Oscar). Me and my boyfriend are quite the reptile lovers as you can tell. We love to learn about them and hear about other people and their herps. Sometime this summer I want to start doing educational programs with some of them to educate people about the reptiles, especially the iggys and how they are cute and tiny into the pet store but many people cant handle what they grow into! Any tips or little fun facts would help out a bunch! If you would like to see some of my reptiles go to... f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/neverneverland21/album?.tok=ph0dhcAB4dVmrcW8&.dir=/Yahoo!+Photo+Album&.src=ph Thanks!!! Jess ;D

Hi Jess-
Welcome to the Zone.
Glad to hear another reptile lover out there. That's quite a collection you have.
I currently have (1) 5 yo male Iguana, (1) Leopard Gecko, (1) White's Tree Frog, (1) Eastern Box Turtle and (1) Creamsicle corn snake.
In April at the White Plains, NY Reptile Expo I'll be purchasing my first breeding pair of Crested Geckos. I just fell in love with them and have to have them. Maybe I'll splurge and get a Ball Python too! ;D
I too am glad to hear you are taking the educational route with the Iguanas. It is so very important to educate the public on their care and husbandry requirements. I take Rex to my sons school once a year to educate the kids on why they should NOT get an Iguana at such a young age.
Many of us do educational work. It would be fun to share notes.
Welcome aboard and happy posting!

Thanks V- I'll be sure to check it out. Shame on me for not thinking of adopting first. Will old habit never die?

The girls there are very thorough. One is the owner of the Iguana Den Website while another is the webmistress and one is the owner of the UVB Meter yahoo mail list...the owner of the " Den" also owns the Ig Den yahoo group. The igs they don't charge an adoption fee for, but I don't know about the snakes and other exotics they have. If you choose to adopt through them...tell them V sent ya... You're not the first to shorten my name to a letter...lol. They might wonder "who the heck is V?" for just a flash, but Veronica will hit them over the head.

Hi Veronica-
No offense intended. I just seem so redundant spelling it out over and over again. LOL And being born and raised in NJ, it's just natural for us. ;D Even in my family, we often refer to each other as D, T, Lil'D and J-boy.
When Des and I spoke, I asked: Do you know Veronica, and she replied: Prism Wolf?? LOL So your moniker carries some weight too!
I'll be sure to mention your *ahem* FULL name.
I've had communications with them in the past and I know they run a great rescue. They are actually listed at my local Petco as a rescue center.

Hey V (yes, I'm doing it too ;D )
I PM'd you my email address, because I'd like to get detailed information on what you did for your info board.
I'm taking Gil to a petting zoo at my church on April 4, I really wanted some good information for the kids. I'm also going to adapt other info into a fun brochure for kids. One thing that I know I'm going to include is a list of BETTER herps for kids.
Thanks so much for helping!
P.S. I'd love suggestions from anyone else too!
