Not all igs like baths. It's sure to freak them out the first few times too. Just keep trying and hopefully eventually he will learn to love it. They are good for the iguana, both to keep him clean and to help his skin stay healthy. Thrasher positions herself directly under the faucet now and lets the water give her a nice massage. lol

Hi Jenna-
As Tesa said, the first few baths can be a very scary experience for them. And if she didn't poop in the tub, she was certainly not comfortable, it's almost automatic.
Igs swim just like crocs do. I just love watching it!
Bathing/soaking is also good for hydration and shedding, so keep at it!
Good luck!

I'm not sure how you introduced AJ to the tub, but especially when their small, put them in after filling the tub. Sometimes the loud noise of the faucet filling the tub can be what freaks them out.

Hi Veronica-
Very true! Rex even at 5 yo, and after literally hundreds of baths, would still claw his way through you rather then get in if the water is running. LOL

That's the same with Icecube, Dom. She freaks with running water.

Gil freaks too. I've also discovered that if I leave the sliding doors open he's much calmer. I think he didn't like being "trapped" in the tub.
Jenna, one thing that you should be aware of is that you'll need to sanitize the tub after you bathe AJ. I know everyone does it a little different, but I just keep a spray bottle (from the hardware store) with a bleach solution next to the tub. When Gil gets out, I drain the tub, spray it down with the solution, and let it sit. I close the doors so the cat doesn't accidently get into it. Before I shower the next day, I rinse the tub thoroughly.

I put the water in the tub first and than i brough AJ upstairs and into the bathtub. My mom washes out the tub with bleach everytime someone takes a bath and she washed it like 2 times after i put AJ into it.

Hi Jenna-
Good for Mom! She's doing a great job of keeping it sanitary.
You can never be too careful with Igs. Especially if they poop in the tub!

My Paco seems to love her baths, but getting her into the tub will often earn me a new scratch or two! I'm trying to figure out how I could build a ramp for her to walk in the tub herself. Thus far, I get her into my hands and lower her in slowly but she hates being in my "hands". She is much better if she can walk herself. For example, she hates being picked up outright but will walk onto my arm easily if gently guided. I want to make a little ramp so she can go from my arm to the ramp and then into the tub. Once in the tub though, she'll stay at least 15min, sometimes a lot more! I often have to get her out myself because I get tired of "supervising" her! Getting out is a piece of cake I put a towel over the side of the tub and she comes out herself and then onto my arm & shoulder. Even with a daily bath, she sometimes takes a quick dip in the little pool of her enclosure (kitty litter pan) and she loves mist showers! One day, I would love to set up a nice kiddy pool to let her swim her little heart out. Pixie

Pixie, I sit on the side of the tub and let Thrasher crawl down me into the tub. She goes from my shoulder to my lap and then takes a dive. lol
