Even if you put him in a bucket, I'd still suggest the leash as a precaution. If he were to somehow jump out (and they can jump pretty high!) or squirm lose from ya.....he'd be hell to catch. and yes, it could be a healing burn ready to shed.....I just cant say for sure.

nope, I missed one! lol
When he is outside he doesn't necessarily have to be misted. It kind of depends on the temperature and how strongly the direct sunlight is beating down. If he starts to get too hot he will prolly hold his mouth open (kinda like a dog panting). If that happens, definately get him cooled down some.

Iguanas will not overeat, so let him wolf down as many greens as he can hold! He won't be skinny for long. ;D (He will be able to fit more into his belly if they are torn into small pieces) Without seeing pics I can't judge about the possible burns, but here is a link to a pic of my second gal when I got her that shows what hers looked like. You can use triple antibiotic ointment on burns, but if you are able to get your hands on a prescription of Sylvadene, it is the best way to treat them. tesa.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=health&action=display&thread=1079982215Going outside: My suggestion would be to put a leash on him. You can make one yourself for a couple of bucks. Here's a link that shows a picture of what most of us here recommend, and how to put it on him. Beware tho! He's liable to do lots of crocodile rolls and belly flops when he gets to the "end of his rope". lol album4055.fotopic.net/c85192.htmlThe best way to pick them up is to scoop your hand under the belly and lift....IF he will let you. ;D After you get him picked up, make sure his feet have something to hold onto so he will feel more secure. The bottom picture at the following link shows the "proper" way to hold an ig. I generally hold mine against my chest tho. ;D tesa.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=pictures&action=display&thread=1090100547I think I covered all your questions. lol (Aren't they just TOO cool!?)

lol @ "Puppy" You guys sound SO excited! Makes me grin. This is gonna be one spoiled lizard. ;D Any kind of water based paint should be ok to use, just make sure you give it plenty of time to dry/air out so he isn't breathing the fumes.

Hi jb! It's great that you are doing your research first! It's people like you who turn out to be the best iguana parents. I'm sure everyone here will pass the word that there's a home waiting for an ig in Alberta.......maybe something will turn up. In the meantime, keep reading, posting, learn everything you can, and start working on your igs house. Welcome to IZ!

Hi Alika You should be proud of yourself for making the effort to learn what Xander needs to keep him healthy. Green Iguana Society was the saving grace for my girl also. When I got her she was only 18 inches in total length and 4 yrs old! Within one year of receiving proper care, she nearly doubled in size. I think you can expect Xander to do some catching up. Welcome to IZ. It's great to have you here.

Hi Claire and welcome to IZ. I too commend you for adopting! Please remember tho, that even a "tame" iguana will still have wild and/or aggressive moments. We all love our "green love machines", but please don't get your expectations get so high that you are disappointed by normal iguana behavior. They can really be brats sometimes! ;D Good to have you here! I look forward to hearing all about your baby when it comes!

Hi Melissa Kerry is right. You can't pay any attention to pet shop people. Their only concern is making a sale. Almost all of them give wrong information. If Lilly isn't growing, there is definately a physical illness present. Most often illness happens because there is something lacking in her environment. That being said, if you would answer the following questions, we'll be able to help you adjust your setup to get her healthy. What kind of lighting does she have? What are the temps in the cage? (at the basking spot and at the coolest place) What does she eat and how often? What are you using for substrate? (the stuff on the floor of her house) Does she poop every day? Do you ever see her drink water? I'll stop for now. ;D A new addition to the family eh? I'm assuming you mean a new lil human? Congratulations! When's your due date? Have you had an ultrasound? Before the baby comes we have to talk about the risk of Salmonella, so please stay in touch with us here. I'm glad you found us and want to try and help Lilly! Welcome to IZ!!
