I was wondering if any of u have ever tried hot peppers, or what you thought about them. I have red numerous times that iguanas relish hot peppers such as Jalapenos and chili's. I have also read that it was rather healthy for them. I have personally never tried it, and I was wondering if any of u have
thats what I was thinking too V. different species have different nerve endings, as an example there is a new tracking method for dogs. Basically they tattoo a serial number of sorts on the inner thigh. When I read up on this it said that the dogs don't feel the pain of the needle like a person does. So I kind of figured that since I had read this about dogs that iguanas may be able to take the heat of a pepper better than a human can.

We have here in Jamaica what we call "green" or "sweet" peppers, and also "Scotch Bonnett" and these are green, yellow or orange. Are all these OK to give the iguanas? I have never given my iguanas peppers of any kind.
I would say that they are probably the same as bell peppers here. Sometimes we call them sweet peppers too because they are not hot and they do have a bit of a sweet taste. so I would say look arround or at least post a pic of one of these peppers u describe in here and we could tell u better. If it is the type of pepper that i am talking about they are good to feed them.
I use sweet peppers (bell peppers) almost every week. The jalpeno's are intersting and i will give them a try! I also like eating them raw as a snack! They lessen your appetite for a while b.c of the hotness in your stomach.
YAYAYAYAY!!!! I am so happy to hear that I can feed spicy peppers! I am allergic to bell peppers (so even handling them make me itchy) but I can do spicy peppers just fine. I am obnoxiously excited now!
I've yet to try hot peppers because of Sanchos reaction once with a green onion. It was rather humorous. I tried to give him a piece of the green part on the onion thinking it wasnt too spicy and wanted to see if he liked it...Well...his reaction was pretty revealing. He took it in but once in his mouth he opened wide and tried to shake the peice out! it was funny to see. Like a kid with a sour reaction gobbing it into their hand in disgust! ;D
I would assume that since onions aren't that spicy that giving him something hotter would render the same reaction. Or maybe iguanas just like the peppers...One day I'll be bound to try givin him one. I don't often use them to cook so I'm not always pickin them up.
It wouldn't be the spicy in the hot pepper that would make him react. We humans have an actual "allergic reaction" to the peppers...some do better than others with peppers, but there is still a reaction. Iguanas don't have this. Go ahead and try one, but mixed in the salad...not by itself. I haven't met an ig yet who hasn't liked them...:-)
